7 Best Beaches in Palermo, Sicily

When you think of Palermo, you may picture bustling markets, historic palaces, and beautiful piazzas, but what many don’t realize is that the city is also surrounded by some of Sicily’s most stunning beaches.

Every summer when I visit, I make sure to spend time by the water, whether it’s relaxing at a sandy lido or finding a hidden rocky cove just outside the city. In this guide, I’m sharing the 7 best beaches in Palermo, Sicily, with tips on how to enjoy them like a local.

1. Mondello Beach

The most famous beach in Palermo, with soft sand, turquoise waters, and rows of lidos where you can rent a chair.
Why we love it: It’s lively, beautiful, and just a short ride from the city center.

2. Addaura

A rocky coastline near Mondello, popular with locals for swimming and diving into the crystal-clear sea.
Why we love it: Less touristy than Mondello and perfect if you like a rugged, natural setting.

3. Sferracavallo

A fishing village with a small beach and clear waters, plus plenty of seafood restaurants nearby.
Why we love it: You can swim, then enjoy some of the freshest seafood in Palermo.

4. Isola delle Femmine

A coastal area west of Palermo with sandy stretches and shallow waters, ideal for swimming.
Why we love it: Great for a quieter day trip outside the city.

5. Capaci Beach

Known for its wide sandy shore and relaxed atmosphere, popular with families.
Why we love it: Easy to reach from Palermo and less crowded than Mondello.

6. Arenella

A small beach near Palermo’s port, popular with locals. While not the most pristine, it’s convenient for a quick swim.
Why we love it: Super close to the city when you don’t want to travel far.

7. Cala Rossa (Terrasini)

A stunning rocky beach about 40 minutes from Palermo, famous for its dramatic red cliffs.
Why we love it: One of the most scenic swimming spots near Palermo—perfect for photos and snorkeling.

Final Thoughts

Palermo isn’t just about history and street food, it also offers easy access to some of Sicily’s most beautiful beaches. Whether you’re sunbathing at Mondello, diving into the rocky waters at Addaura, or heading out to Cala Rossa for a day trip, these beaches show off the best of Palermo’s coastline.
